A mother has shared shocking images of her daughter’s injuries following a dog attack in Wales. The 12-year-old girl is awaiting surgery for the severe wounds to her arm. The incident, involving what is believed to be an XL Bully type dog, occurred as the child was getting out of a car with her father. The family described the dog’s sudden attack as happening “out of the blue.”
Authorities were alerted to the incident at The Crescent in Nantyglo, Brynmawr, at approximately 5.50pm on Monday 7 October. The victim sustained serious injuries to her arm and back within a split-second attack. The girl’s father managed to restrain the dog until police arrived. The family suspects that the unleashed dog, lacking a collar, was responsible for the attack.
The young girl is facing surgery for her arm injuries, potentially requiring a skin graft from her leg. Her mother, identifying the dog as an XL Bully type, is advocating for responsible pet ownership, including registration, muzzling, and leash adherence for dangerous dogs. Expressing her dismay at the incident, she stressed the need for vigilance and accountability among dog owners.
The authorities have informed that the dog involved was euthanised by a veterinary professional. A 37-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman from Brynmawr have been arrested on suspicion of owning or possessing a dog bred for fighting and owning or possessing a dog that was dangerously out of control.
Superintendent John Davies reassured the community of no further public threat and advised continued police presence in Nantyglo.
