Mum of missing Jack O’Sullivan says police have shown them ‘total disrespect’

The mother of missing student Jack O’Sullivan has expressed her family’s frustration with the ongoing police investigation, alleging that they have been treated with “total disrespect”. Jack O’Sullivan, 23, disappeared more than five months ago after walking home from a party in Bristol on March 2. Catherine O’Sullivan, Jack’s mother, revealed to Wales Online on July 6 the increasing anguish her family experiences as each week passes without any leads. She shared her anguish, stating, “Its so painful… We are tortured.”

While the circumstances surrounding Jack’s disappearance remain unclear, Catherine believes he was attempting to return to their family home in Flax Bourton after a night out in Bristol. In a bid to raise awareness, relatives and friends have launched a website, fundraiser, and a ‘Find Jack’ Facebook group with over 55,000 members. Recently, Catherine voiced her disappointment with the police in the Facebook group, emphasising their reliance on the public for information.

Avon and Somerset Police have conducted an extensive search for Jack, including reviewing hours of CCTV footage, deploying search teams by land and water, and seeking guidance from national policing specialists. Despite these efforts, Jack’s whereabouts remain unknown. The police acknowledged the family’s concerns and confirmed an Assistant Chief Constable would meet with them. A formal complaint from the family was voluntarily referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct for oversight.

Catherine emphasised the importance of public assistance, urging anyone with information to come forward as even the smallest detail could be crucial. Jack’s sudden disappearance has left his family devastated and desperate for answers. The family’s relentless pursuit for answers has been met with challenges, prompting them to seek support from the community for help in locating Jack. The anxious wait continues for the O’Sullivan family as they cling to hope for Jack’s safe return.
