Mum dies after flying to Turkey for cosmetic surgery she hoped would ‘change her life’

A 38-year-old British mother has tragically passed away after undergoing cosmetic surgery in Turkey in the hopes of transforming her life. Kaydell Brown, a hairdresser from Sheffield, travelled to Istanbul seeking a Brazilian butt lift, a tummy tuck, and breast augmentation, spending £5,400 on the procedures. She had just celebrated her birthday before embarking on the trip for what she called a “mummy MOT”.

Accompanied by her sister Leanne, who was also scheduled to have surgery at the same clinic, Kaydell’s operation at ClinicExpert was expected to take five hours but lasted 10 hours before she passed away in the recovery room at 7.20pm. Leanne was devastated to receive the news and described the clinic as a “pop-up butcher shop that needs shutting down”.

According to information from the Foreign Office, 28 British citizens have died following cosmetic surgeries in Turkey since 2019. Kaydell’s sister Leanne has been vocal about raising awareness of the dangers associated with such procedures abroad. The family is left with unanswered questions about the circumstances surrounding Kaydell’s death.

After returning to the UK, Kaydell’s body was found to be missing parts of her heart, leading to further distress for her loved ones. An inquest into her death has been opened, with a UK pathologist examining her body tissue. The clinic in Istanbul has cited fat emboli blocking a lung blood vessel as the likely cause of Kaydell’s death.

The circumstances surrounding Kaydell’s passing have raised concerns about the safety of cosmetic surgeries performed abroad. The UK government has advised individuals considering such procedures to thoroughly research treatment options, clinician qualifications, and regulatory standards in the destination country.

Leanne remembers her sister as a loving and caring individual who sought the surgery as a means to regain confidence and improve her well-being after experiencing weight gain due to a previous injury. Despite the heartbreaking outcome, Leanne remains determined to seek justice for Kaydell and raise awareness of the risks involved in cosmetic procedures overseas.
