Mum, 27, showed holiday photos to airport staff – they noticed one detail and arrested her

A 27-year-old woman, Larissa Lins, was arrested at Manchester Airport after inadvertently revealing her involvement in drug smuggling to Border Force officers. Lins, who had flown in from Brazil, was stopped and questioned by officers. She claimed she had come to the UK to ‘research nice places’ after traveling through France and Portugal. Despite denying any illegal items in her possession, she showed officers a picture of ‘white pellets’ while sharing photos from her time in France. Further searches uncovered that Lins had concealed nearly 100 pellets of cocaine both internally and externally.

Following her guilty plea to being involved in smuggling class A drugs, Lins was sentenced to prison and is likely to be deported back to Brazil after serving a portion of her sentence. Prosecutors revealed that Lins had flown from Sao Paulo to Manchester via France and Portugal with only a small pink cabin bag. She had the drugs hidden inside her body and bra. The total weight of the seized cocaine was 1.1 kilos, with an estimated street value of £72,000. Lins admitted swallowing and concealing the pellets before her trip and planned to hand them over upon arrival.

During sentencing, the judge highlighted the risks Lins took and the exploitative nature of those who recruited her for the crime. Her defence attorney portrayed Lins as a victim of coercion and intimidation, emphasising her lack of influence over higher-ranking criminals. The court sentenced Lins to three years in prison, acknowledging the serious nature of her crime and the disregard shown by those who exploited her situation.

Cases of drug smuggling continue to pose a significant threat, and law enforcement agencies are committed to tackling such criminal activities to ensure public safety and security. The incident involving Larissa Lins serves as a reminder of the ongoing battle against drug trafficking and the importance of robust border control measures to intercept illegal substances entering the country.

Please note that engaging in drug smuggling or any form of illicit activity is a serious offence that carries severe consequences. It is essential for individuals to abide by the law and avoid getting involved in criminal activities that can harm themselves and others. Law enforcement agencies remain vigilant in their efforts to combat drug trafficking and safeguard communities from the detrimental effects of drugs.
