Most of us value working with colleagues face to face, study says

According to a new study by Spacemade, only 6% of people choose to work completely independently, with the majority believing that in-person interactions at work enhance productivity and output. The research delved into the importance of face-to-face connections in the workplace and how it contributes to the success of our work. When faced with challenges at work, over half of the respondents found that discussing the issue in person with a colleague was the most effective way to address it – preferably over a cup of tea or coffee.

Jonny Rosenblatt, co-founder of Spacemade, emphasised the significance of collaboration and meaningful in-person connections, stating that workplaces should be spaces where people feel a sense of pride, whether through amenities or shared experiences with others. The study highlighted that 81% of individuals feel a stronger sense of belonging and community when working alongside their peers, underscoring the value of interpersonal relationships in the work environment.

The research results indicate a clear preference for traditional in-person work interactions over remote working setups. The findings underscore the importance of cultivating a supportive and engaging work environment that fosters collaboration and camaraderie among colleagues. Ultimately, the study suggests that face-to-face interactions remain crucial for enhancing productivity, creativity, and a sense of community in the workplace.
