Met Office Issues 24-hour Weather Warning for Wales

The Met Office has issued a 24-hour yellow weather warning for parts of Wales due to heavy rain expected on Friday, September 6. The warning, which will be in effect from midnight until 11.59 pm, predicts that heavy rain may cause travel disruption and flooding in southern England and the southern parts of Wales. The Met Office has cautioned that rainfall could reach 75-100mm in certain areas.

  • Earlier Warnings: The upcoming weather warning follows two previous warnings issued for Wales earlier in the week. On September 2, a warning for thunderstorms and heavy rain was issued for the entire country. Another warning for rain was issued specifically for Cardiff and surrounding areas from September 4 to September 5.
  • Details of the Warning: The warning for Friday states, “Outbreaks of heavy rain are expected widely across southern England and southern Wales on Friday. Rainfall totals of 15-30 mm are expected widely, with some areas likely to see 40-60 mm and a few areas possibly experiencing 75-100 mm.”
  • Areas Affected: The weather warning covers various regions including east of England, East Midlands, London, south east England, south west England, West Midlands, and large parts of south Wales.

The Met Office has emphasized that the heavy rain on Friday follows an already wet period, increasing the risk of impacts. Additionally, there is a possibility of further heavy rain over the weekend in southern parts of the country.
