A gang in Wales has orchestrated a terrifying plot to lure a music producer from London to west Wales, where they beat and kidnapped him, leaving him handcuffed to a radiator in an isolated property. The victim, Itay Kashti, was targeted due to a twofold motivation – to extort money from him and due to his Jewish faith. Faiz Shah, Mohammad Comrie, and Elijah Ogunnubi-Sime were the perpetrators behind the heinous crime, meticulously planning every aspect of the kidnapping, from the location to the equipment needed.
The gang used a fake email from the Polydor record company to trick Mr. Kashti into believing he was invited to a music camp in Brynteg near Llanybydder in west Wales. Once he arrived at the property, he fell into the gang’s trap, being assaulted by the masked kidnappers and left handcuffed to a radiator. Despite their careful planning, the criminals fled the scene, leaving Mr. Kashti to free himself and escape from the property.
Authorities were alerted, leading to a search operation that resulted in the apprehension of Shah, Comrie, and Ogunnubi-Sime. The court heard that the gang even had plans to evade the police and escape after the kidnapping. The defendants, all with no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to the crime and were sentenced to eight years and one month in prison, with Sime receiving youth detention.
During the sentencing, the judge condemned the perpetrators for their abhorrent actions towards Mr. Kashti, targeting him based on his Jewish heritage. The court heard impact statements from the victim, describing the ordeal as reminiscent of a personal tragedy. The defendants’ barristers highlighted their clients’ remorse and personal circumstances in plea for leniency during sentencing.
