Martin Lewis’s team slams IKEA’s new scheme with stark examples

Martin Lewis’s team has criticised Ikea’s new loyalty scheme, which has recently been revamped, offering points for every purchase made. The scheme also allows members to earn points through online interactions with Ikea services like logging in or setting up appointments in-store. However, Money Saving Expert (MSE), led by Martin Lewis, has raised concerns about the value of the rewards offered under the new system.

According to MSE’s analysis, significant spending is required to see any substantial benefits from the loyalty scheme. For instance, customers would need to spend £110 to receive a 10p Daim cake or £625 to get a £10 discount on their next purchase. The rewards can vary from discounts on delivery for larger items to deals on food orders at Ikea restaurants, or savings on purchases over £11. Voucher codes obtained through points expire after one month, but the points within the account are valid for 18 months.

MSE pointed out that customers would need 100 points for a £10 delivery discount or 68 points for a nine-piece breakfast at a cost of 50p. Despite their reservations, the team mentioned that any money-saving scheme could be beneficial, especially for regular Ikea shoppers. However, they caution that points could expire if not used within the 18-month timeframe.

While some customers have praised Ikea’s Family Club even before the rebranding, acknowledging perks like free coffee on each visit, concerns linger about the potential expiration of points if not utilised within the specified period. Ikea has been contacted for further comment on the new loyalty scheme.
