Marks & Spencer create 11,000 new jobs over Christmas

Marks & Spencer is set to create over 11,000 new jobs for the upcoming Christmas season, which is 1,000 more than last year. The renowned high street retailer is gearing up for the festive rush by hiring additional customer service staff to provide support in stores across the UK. These roles will involve tasks such as serving customers on the shop floor, restocking shelves, and assisting with the food-to-order service, spanning both the food and clothing/home divisions of the company.

Recruitment for these positions will commence on October 9, with new staff members expected to join from mid-November. Sacha Berendji, the operations director at M&S, expressed the company’s commitment to delivering a magical Christmas experience to customers and highlighted the crucial role that store colleagues play in achieving this goal. He emphasised the importance of recruiting more colleagues this year to ensure a closer connection with customers during the festive season.

With a variety of roles and flexible working patterns available, M&S is encouraging individuals interested in being a part of something special this Christmas to visit their careers website to apply. Additionally, the company mentioned that there will be different start dates for employees, a range of roles to choose from, and flexible working options. During the busy Christmas trading period, M&S also enlists support centre employees to assist in stores, with each worker dedicating seven days annually to in-store duties, including four days leading up to Christmas.

Last year, support centre employees contributed a total of 103,000 hours towards helping out in stores during the Christmas period, showcasing the company’s teamwork and dedication to providing exceptional service during the festive season. The additional recruitment drive by Marks & Spencer not only signifies a boost in job opportunities but also reflects the company’s commitment to ensuring a memorable and seamless shopping experience for customers during the busy holiday period.
