Man’s ‘fascination’ with weapons leads to drug dealing discovery
A man’s long-standing interest in weapons has taken a dangerous turn, resulting in his involvement in drug dealing being exposed. Andrew Hanley, a 33-year-old from Swansea, was recently brought before Swansea Crown Court where his illicit activities were laid bare. Hanley’s fascination with weapons became the catalyst for his downfall, as Border Force officers intercepted a package containing an extendable baton labeled for him. The authorities swiftly alerted the local police, triggering a chain of events that would uncover a shocking stash of drugs at Hanley’s residence.
When officers arrived at Hanley’s house following the tip-off from the Border Force, they not only discovered the extendable baton but also stumbled upon a significant quantity of cocaine, a mixing agent, and various drug paraphernalia. This alarming find shed light on Hanley’s troubling history of possessing offensive weapons such as a knuckleduster and martial arts nunchucks. During the search of his property, law enforcement uncovered 623g of cocaine, over half a kilo of benzocaine (a substance commonly used in drug preparation), weighing scales, empty bags, a sheathed knife, cash amounting to £660, and a small quantity of cannabis. Hanley’s response to his arrest was telling, with a simple yet damning statement of “I’m f***ed.” Despite the evidence against him, he opted to remain silent during police questioning, offering a resounding “no comment” to all inquiries.
Andrew Hanley, residing on Pantycelyn Road in Townhill, Swansea, had already pleaded guilty to charges of importing an offensive weapon, possession of cocaine with intent to supply, and possession of cannabis. With guilty pleas factored in, Hanley received a 42-month prison sentence for his offences, with a possibility of early release under licence after serving half his term behind bars.
