Serial shoplifter Warren Staniforth, 39, has been sentenced to spend 24 weeks in prison for stealing a stack of advent calendars worth £150. The spree across Nottinghamshire saw Staniforth targeting seven different stores over the course of a month. His stealing spree included items such as cigarettes, chocolate buttons, steaks, prawns, sweets, alcohol, and coffee.
Staniforth’s thefts were finally brought to an end when Nottinghamshire Police caught up with him on October 30. Upon further investigation, he was linked to a series of other offenses, including the theft of £400 worth of steak and the repeated use of stolen credit cards, as well as a burglary and two counts of fraud by false representation. He was also found guilty of stealing a smartphone from a vehicle in Forest Fields.
During his sentencing at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court, Staniforth, who has no fixed address, was not only given a 24-week jail term but also ordered to pay £1,000 in compensation to the owner of the stolen phone. PC Jonny Morgan of Nottinghamshire Police remarked on Staniforth’s blatant disregard for the law, stating that despite multiple warnings, he continued to commit crimes. Morgan expressed relief that Staniforth would be spending the Christmas period behind bars.
