A man who shed an impressive 12 stone in weight has found an innovative way to ensure he doesn’t revert to his old habits. Martin Bryan, now 36 years old, from Glasgow, Scotland, used a life-sized cardboard cutout of his former XXXXL self to serve as a constant reminder of his transformation journey. Martin’s struggle with weight issues began at a young age, as he turned to food to cope with bullying he faced in school. The habit continued to escalate, with Martin indulging in takeaways and sweet treats following the loss of his mother at the age of 20. By the time he reached 29, Martin tipped the scales at a staggering 27 stone and was informed he was pre-diabetic.
Determined to turn his life around, Martin joined a local weight loss group and managed to shed an initial 11 stone in just 10 months. Following excess skin removal surgery, he lost a further stone, bringing his total weight loss to an impressive 12 stone. Four years on, Martin has successfully kept the weight off, maintaining a healthy weight of 15st 6lbs. Inspired by his own journey, Martin has also taken on the role of a weight loss coach, helping others achieve their fitness goals.
Martin reflects on his challenging journey, attributing his success to a newfound energy, improved sleep, and an overall sense of well-being. He credits his transformation to a shift in his mindset and lifestyle choices, which propelled him towards a healthier future. By incorporating a structured weight loss plan and committing to regular exercise, Martin was able to achieve his goal weight and sustain his progress.
Moreover, Martin underwent additional surgeries to address the excess skin resulting from his weight loss, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his well-being. He also invested in dental veneers to rectify damage caused by sugar consumption during his weight gain phase. Martin’s dedication to maintaining a healthy regimen involves sticking to a balanced meal plan and engaging in exercise six times a week to preserve his fit physique.
Expressing pride in his accomplishments, Martin views his past struggles as essential to his transformation journey. The cardboard cutout of his former self serves as a poignant reminder of the progress he’s made and the determination required to overcome obstacles. Martin embraces his journey, referring to the scars from his surgeries as ‘battle scars,’ symbolising the resilience and strength he’s gained along the way.
