Man Throws Tables and Bottles at Cardiff Wagamama Staff

A man named James Griffiths, 38, caused chaos at a Wagamama restaurant in Cardiff by throwing tables and bottles at the staff and security officers. This incident occurred at the St David’s 2 shopping center in Cardiff city center on October 13. Diners at the restaurant were left frightened and upset by Griffiths’ actions. During a sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court, it was revealed that Griffiths caused a total of £4,780 in damages.

  • Griffiths also exposed himself to a nurse while in the hospital.
  • He masturbated in front of the nurse, causing distress.
  • Additionally, Griffiths sexually assaulted a custody officer during his court appearance.

Prosecutor Jeffrey Jones highlighted Griffiths’ aggressive behavior towards healthcare professionals, as he verbally abused a healthcare worker and spat in her ear and hair while in police custody at Cardiff Bay police station on October 18.

Griffiths pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including sexual assault, assaulting an emergency worker, exposure, affray, and criminal damage. The court learned that Griffiths had a history of assaulting emergency workers. His defense barrister, Peter Donnison, mentioned Griffiths’ schizo-affective disorder and non-compliance with medication as contributing factors to his actions. Despite this, Griffiths was sentenced to 22 months in prison and will be required to adhere to sex offender notification requirements for seven years.

Judge Simon Mills Esq acknowledged Griffiths’ mental health issues but emphasized that these should not excuse mistreatment of individuals tasked with public protection. The sentencing aims to address Griffiths’ behavior and protect the community from any potential harm he may cause.
