Nicholas Mudford, an insurance broker from Tiverton, is urging people to steer clear of energy drinks after experiencing significant tooth damage from consuming three cans daily, resulting in the loss of several teeth. Mudford’s habit of drinking energy drinks began 20 years ago, attracted by the taste and the trendiness surrounding them. Eventually, he found himself consuming 21 cans per week, leading to the loss of two front teeth and the fracturing of four back teeth. Despite his dental issues, Mudford had not visited a dentist in a decade due to a deep-seated fear. The deterioration of his oral health culminated in a moment when a front tooth fell out while driving to work, prompting him to seek a solution.

In a bid to restore his smile, Mudford underwent extensive dental work in Turkey, including the extraction of 10 teeth, six implants, two sinus lifts, a bone graft, and the application of a full set of veneers. The entire procedure cost him £9,000, significantly less than it would have in the UK. The transformation has had a profound impact on Mudford’s confidence, allowing him to smile freely and feel like a different person. He emphasised the life-changing nature of the treatment and expressed gratitude for the newfound ability to confidently pose for photographs. Additionally, Mudford has acquired a newfound commitment to dental hygiene, acknowledging the importance of caring for his artificial teeth.

Having abandoned energy drinks a year ago, Mudford is determined to spread awareness about the detrimental effects of these beverages on oral health. He encourages others to heed his warning, cautioning against the consumption of energy drinks due to their potential to cause severe dental issues. Reflecting on his journey, Mudford highlights the significance of prioritising dental care and maintaining oral hygiene to preserve one’s smile. By sharing his story, he aims to dissuade individuals from falling into the same trap he did and emphasises the importance of dental health in overall well-being.

Mudford’s experience serves as a poignant reminder of the consequences of neglecting oral health and the impact of unhealthy dietary habits. His journey from tooth loss to dental restoration underscores the transformative power of seeking professional dental care and prioritising dental hygiene. Through his advocacy against energy drinks, Mudford hopes to prevent others from enduring similar dental hardships, urging individuals to consider the long-term effects of their dietary choices on oral health.
