In a shocking incident at a farm in Llanharan, a man launched a vicious attack on his friend, a dog, his friend’s father, and a police officer, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. The perpetrator, identified as Reece Bates, was staying in a caravan belonging to his friend Ben Staddon when the violent outburst occurred.
Described as a “rap artist” from Bristol, Bates unleashed a wave of terror on the property, causing chaos and mayhem. The incident, which took place on February 20, saw Bates assaulting two members of the public, threatening to kill two individuals, damaging property, and inflicting unnecessary suffering on a dog.
According to witness accounts, Bates’s behaviour rapidly escalated from being friendly to aggressive and paranoid after a night of drinking. Ben Staddon recounted how Bates became physically violent, smashing windows, destroying furniture, and attacking both his dog and Ben’s dog with a steel-toecapped boot.
The situation further deteriorated as Bates turned his aggression towards Ben Staddon’s parents, Neil and Cheryl Staddon, who resided in a house on the farm. Neil Staddon described how Bates entered their home, ranting and threatening violence, ultimately elbowing and kicking Neil while issuing threats against the family.
Amid the chaos, Cheryl Staddon managed to call the police for assistance, describing Bates as being out of control and potentially under the influence of substances. When law enforcement arrived, Bates continued his violent behaviour, culminating in him kicking a police officer in the face.
Despite Bates’s absence from the trial, District Judge Charlotte Murphy found him guilty on all charges and issued a warrant for his arrest. The disturbing and senseless nature of the attacks has left the community in shock and disbelief, highlighting the importance of addressing and preventing such acts of violence.
The harrowing ordeal serves as a reminder of the potential for unexpected and dangerous behaviour, urging vigilance and swift action in ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals and communities.
