Man electrocuted at popular Cardiff bar

An inquiry is currently in progress following an incident where a contractor allegedly suffered an electric shock at a bar in Cardiff. The incident occurred at O’Neill’s on St Mary Street around 6:30 pm on June 1, resulting in the 33-year-old man experiencing cardiac arrest. Thanks to the prompt action of a passer-by who performed CPR and the use of a defibrillator by paramedics, he was successfully resuscitated after receiving three electric shocks.

The individual involved was an audio-visual specialist who had been hired to handle lighting duties at the bar. Reportedly, he was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Subsequently, he was placed on life support, but as of June 7, he has been transferred out of intensive care and is presently recuperating in a regular hospital ward.

The Cardiff Council has affirmed its intention to investigate the incident thoroughly to determine if any health and safety violations occurred. A spokesperson for the council mentioned that the Shared Regulatory Services officers are cognizant of the occurrence and are actively examining the circumstances surrounding the injury.

O’Neill’s spokesperson stated that, out of respect for the affected individual’s privacy, they are unable to provide specific comments on personal matters. However, they did confirm that emergency services promptly responded to the incident on Thursday, June 1, conducting safety inspections and providing necessary assistance to enable the bar to resume its operations. The business was authorized to reopen as usual on Saturday, and normal activities have recommenced. As part of their commitment to maintaining safety standards, an internal review of the incident will be conducted.
