Man charged with crossbow murders of BBC commentator’s wife and daughters

A man has been charged with the murders of Carol, Louise, and Hannah Hunt in Bushey, Hertfordshire, as confirmed by the Crown Prosecution Service. The victims, wife of BBC racing commentator John Hunt and her daughters, were allegedly attacked in their home on July 9. Mr. Hunt, who was working for the BBC at the time, returned home to find his family fatally injured. Police responded to the incident at Ashlyn Close, Bushey, just before 7pm, leading to the arrest of Kyle Clifford, 26, in Enfield. Clifford faces charges for the murders, along with possession of an offensive weapon and false imprisonment.

Following his arrest, Clifford was found wounded in an Enfield graveyard and received medical treatment at a trauma centre. The devastation of the incident has left the Hunt family in profound shock. Mr. Hunt and his surviving daughter, Amy, expressed gratitude for the public’s support during this trying time. They stated their need for privacy and space to process the tragedy and begin the grieving process. The accused, Clifford, has been remanded into custody and is set to appear at the Royal Courts of Justice.

Lisa Ramsarran, chief crown prosecutor for CPS Thames and Chiltern, emphasised the importance of refraining from sharing information that could impact the fairness of the trial. A vigil held in memory of the victims saw heartfelt tributes from Lea Holloway, a childhood friend of Carol Hunt, who described her as a “beautiful person” and remembered Louise and Hannah as “lovely girls.” The community expressed its deep sorrow and solidarity with the Hunt family during this challenging time.

The tragic incident in Hertfordshire has deeply affected not only the victims’ loved ones but also the wider community. The upcoming court proceedings will shed further light on the events surrounding this heartbreaking crime. As developments unfold, the Hunt family continues to navigate the immense loss they have suffered, leaning on the support and compassion of those around them. The Crown Prosecution Service is working diligently to ensure that justice is served in this case.
