A drug dealer running a ‘Spice’ drugs line in Cardiff was apprehended by police as he attempted to dispose of his phone, the key element in his illicit operation. Hassan Hassan, 20, from Adamsdown, was identified by the Cardiff and Vale Organised Crime Unit as the mastermind behind the drug line supplying crack cocaine and heroin in the area. In an attempt to evade arrest, Hassan was caught trying to pass on the incriminating mobile phone to another individual as law enforcement closed in on him.
Metropolitan Police officers in London arrested Hassan on July 17, where he was found in possession of the phone central to his drug-dealing activities. Through a data-based forensic examination carried out by South Wales Police, it was confirmed that Hassan was directly linked to the illegal drug line operations. The investigation revealed that he routinely sent mass text messages advertising crack cocaine and heroin to up to 100 recipients at a time, showcasing his extensive network.
Acknowledging his involvement in the distribution of crack cocaine and heroin, Hassan pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him. Subsequently, on Wednesday, he was sentenced to 41 months in prison by Cardiff Crown Court. Hassan was just one of 25 individuals arrested during July 2024 by the Cardiff and Vale Organised Crime Team, leading to the seizure of a significant quantity of crack cocaine and £17,000 in cash. In addition, a total of 21 drug lines were dismantled by South Wales Police during this enforcement campaign.
