Man banned from Tesco Express after ‘causing misery’ for its staff

A man from Swansea, Daniel Rice, has been banned from Tesco Express in Treboeth after repeatedly shoplifting and causing “misery” for the store’s staff. Rice, aged 30, stole over £4,000 worth of items, including chocolate, Stella lager boxes, cleaning products, and chilled meats, during 16 visits to the store in Penlan. Police Sergeant Craig Evans described Rice’s actions as a “crime spree” that targeted the same store multiple times, leading to distress for the staff.

Following a thorough investigation by Operation Viscaria, particularly involving PCs Pearson and Fritche, Rice was sentenced to six months in prison for 16 counts of theft from a shop. Swansea Magistrates’ Court heard that Rice was stealing to fund an addiction. In addition to his prison term, Rice was also issued a criminal behaviour order that prohibits him from entering any Tesco Express premises for three years.
