Man banned from football club brandishes knife – Wales Online
A 56-year-old man, Michael Parsons, pulled out a knife and waved it around at Taffs Well Football Club after being banned from the premises. Parsons, who had a history of 17 previous convictions, including supplying controlled drugs, visited the club on June 2 last year despite being prohibited from entering. When asked to leave, he responded aggressively, threatening the individuals present before displaying the weapon.
During a sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court, it was revealed that Parsons, while sitting outside the club, was intoxicated and appeared “glassy-eyed”. When approached by the groundsman and asked to depart the premises, he was observed to have a knife tucked up his sleeve. Despite being instructed to leave, Parsons defiantly brandished the knife at shoulder height for approximately a minute before retreating to a nearby wooded area.
Following the incident, the police were notified and later arrested Parsons at his residence, where he attempted to flee. Parsons subsequently pleaded guilty to possessing a bladed article in a public place. However, in mitigation, the court heard that he had been drug- and alcohol-free for ten months following the passing of his parents, indicating a positive change in his behaviour.
In sentencing, Judge Jeremy Jenkins imposed a 12-month community order on Parsons, coupled with a 90-day alcohol abstinence requirement.
