Man arrested after taking toddler from pram in TK Maxx

A man has been arrested on suspicion of picking a child up from a pram and telling their mother that he would take it, the Metropolitan Police said. The man was arrested in Bromley High Street, south London, for kidnapping after officers were called to a TK Maxx store on Wednesday. The two-year-old child was recovered, and the investigation is continuing.

“The man has been arrested on suspicion of kidnap following an incident in Bromley High Street on Wednesday, August 28. We received a call at around 10:34 am after the child’s mother reported a male attempted to pick up the child from their pram and made comments suggesting he intended to take the child,” a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said.

Armed police descended on a village following a report of a man with a gun. A police helicopter, dog unit, and firearm officers were called to the former mining village, where a 27-year-old man was subsequently arrested.
