Major roadworks on the A470 are set to cause disruptions until February 2025, as confirmed by the Welsh Government. Drivers have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly due to the extent of the works taking place. The roadworks will primarily affect a three-mile section on the A470 between Talerddig and Dolfach. The Welsh Government has announced a complete closure of this stretch of road from October 31 to December 20.
The roadworks aim to address a previous emergency closure that occurred in October 2023 when a retaining wall supporting the road partially collapsed. Detailed design work for a permanent solution has been finalised, allowing the construction work to commence. By enhancing the resilience of the A470, the Welsh Government hopes to prevent any future emergency closures and disruptions.
During the road closure, repairs to the retaining wall above the Afon Laen will be conducted 24 hours a day, with the potential to shorten the closure period based on progress. Following the closure, two-way traffic lights will be installed to facilitate the completion of construction works. These traffic lights are expected to be removed by February 14, 2025.
The Welsh Government emphasised the importance of these roadworks for ensuring the long-term viability of the A470. They acknowledge that while the works may cause inconvenience in the short term, they are crucial for the road’s future resilience. Drivers are thanked for their patience during this period of disruption.
In light of the upcoming road closures and traffic management measures, it is advised that motorists stay informed about the latest developments and plan alternate routes where necessary. The Welsh Government’s announcement aims to keep road users informed and prepared for the anticipated disruptions on the A470 until early 2025.
