A crash on the M4 in Bridgend has resulted in the closure of a section of the road, with traffic being diverted and delays expected. The incident occurred at junction 36 westbound, leading to the closure of the road from junction 36 to junction 37. At approximately 3 pm, all traffic in the area was temporarily held, with vehicles past the slip road being turned around and released via the exit slip road.
South Wales Police has advised motorists to seek alternative routes, as the road is expected to remain closed for some time. A police spokesperson stated, “We are at the scene of a collision on the M4 junction 36 westbound, Bridgend. The road is currently closed from junction 36 westbound to junction 37 and it is expected to remain closed for some time. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible.”
Inrix, the traffic service, reported that traffic camera footage showed heavy traffic building on the opposite side of the carriageway as well. While the crash occurred westbound, lane three of three has been closed eastbound to assist with the incident, leading to traffic congestion in both directions.
