According to the study, books can instil a desire in children to try new experiences, which in turn fosters personal growth and resilience. Professor Helen Dodd, an expert in Child Psychology at Exeter Medical School, highlighted that reading plays a vital role in nurturing curiosity and creativity in children. Reading habits were also examined in the survey, revealing that over two-thirds of children typically read or have someone read to them at bedtime, while nearly half enjoy diving into a book at school. Interestingly, more than a third of children prefer reading by themselves, demonstrating an eagerness for independent reading. The majority of parents pass down their favourite childhood books, with classics like Winnie-the-Pooh, Treasure Island, and The Jungle Book being the most popular choices.
