Jay Slater’s dad explains ‘found keys’ in bid to solve the mystery

Warren Slater, the father of Jay Slater, who tragically passed away in Tenerife, has taken to social media in an effort to shed light on some potentially crucial information as he seeks to unravel the mystery surrounding his son’s death. Jay, a teenager from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, went missing on June 17, 2024, during a three-day music festival trip to Tenerife with his friends. Following a month-long search, Jay’s lifeless body was discovered on July 15 near the village of Masca, not far from where he was last seen. The initial post-mortem examination indicated that Jay likely met his demise due to a fall from a height, as confirmed by the Civil Guard, who noted multiple fractures in his body.

Despite the autopsy findings providing some closure to his family, the circumstances leading to Jay’s solo journey that fateful night remain shrouded in uncertainty. One theory suggests that Jay may have been attempting to reach a friend’s place after misplacing his accommodation keys. Warren Slater has recently set up a TikTok account to share insights into his ongoing quest for answers regarding his son’s disappearance. In his most recent video, viewed over 50,000 times, Warren disclosed discovering a set of keys believed to belong to Jay but were actually linked to Paul Arnott, a TikTok investigator known as Down the Rapids, who had travelled to Spain to aid in the investigation.

It was reported that Jay had mentioned losing his keys the night before he vanished. Allegedly, he messaged a fellow festival-goer, Ayub Qassim, who was the last person to see Jay alive, about his missing key. Mr Qassim offered Jay a place to stay at his Airbnb accommodation and drove him there in the early hours of the morning. Subsequently, Jay decided to embark on an arduous 11-hour trek back to his apartment by foot around 8 am. Jay’s uncle, Glen Duncan, expressed scepticism about the notion that losing a room key would prompt Jay to undertake such a lengthy journey, suggesting that Jay could have sought a replacement key at the reception instead.

According to Mr Qassim, Jay returned to the Airbnb, Casa Abuela Tina, as his friends had departed early, leaving him behind. Former police detective Mark Williams-Thomas, who joined the search in Tenerife to pursue various leads, shared insights into Jay’s final hours, revealing that Jay opted to stay at Mr Qassim’s place after feeling abandoned by his friends. The incident has continued to raise questions and intrigue as Warren Slater and his team of supporters diligently work to uncover the truth behind Jay’s untimely death.
