TV presenter Lorraine Kelly has revealed why she chose to skip this year’s National Television Awards, citing feelings of self-doubt. Although a regular attendee at the prestigious event, the 64-year-old television icon admitted during her ITV show on Wednesday that she lacked confidence this year. Speaking with guest Holly Matthews, Kelly confessed her reluctance to walk the red carpet, describing it as a terrifying experience. She explained to her audience, “It’s the NTAs and normally I would be going to that. But I just feel, I don’t know what it is, but I just don’t feel confident enough to go. I just don’t like the red carpet thing, which I find really scary!”
Despite receiving advice from Holly to boost her confidence, Lorraine hinted at her absence from the NTA event in a subsequent video call with NTA host Joel Dommett. Dommett expressed his excitement for the awards show, mentioning an enhanced experience and performances. Trying to entice Lorraine, he shared that Olly Murs would be performing and that it would be an exciting evening. Kelly enthusiastically expressed her intention to watch the event but ultimately did not attend in person. Viewers at home echoed Lorraine’s sentiments, with some expressing a lack of enthusiasm for the National Television Awards.
In a departure from previous years, Lorraine did not receive a nomination this year, missing out on recognition for best TV presenter and her ITV show also not receiving nominations in other categories. This year saw Kelly openly discussing her apprehensions about attending the NTAs, highlighting a different side to her usual television persona. Despite her absence, Lorraine remains a respected figure in the television industry, known for her candid nature and engaging presence on screen. As viewers eagerly anticipate her return to future events, Kelly’s decision to prioritise her own well-being serves as a reminder of the importance of self-care in the spotlight.
