In a touching tribute to Johnson’s late wife, Lisa, who succumbed to ovarian cancer, the duo traversed over 3,000 miles of the English coastline in 2023. This journey not only raised over £60,000 for Ovarian Cancer Action but also deepened the bond between man and dog. Johnson expressed his gratitude for Louis, a rescue dog who has played a pivotal role in his life post-Lisa. Reflecting on their journey, Johnson shared, “Louis is a rescue dog and to be honest I don’t really know who rescued who now… We’ve been together for two years and he’s been pivotal in my life post Lisa, and we have such a strong bond now.”

The Hero Dog Award nominations have brought newfound excitement to Johnson, who admitted to not having attended Crufts before. He shared his anticipation at standing alongside the other four finalists in the acclaimed arena, acknowledging the privilege of being recognised in such an esteemed establishment. The Kennel Club selected the finalists, including Louis, to vie for the public vote. The winner of the Hero Dog Award will be revealed at Birmingham NEC, and on Channel 4, during Crufts 2025, with The Kennel Club Charitable Trust offering a £5,000 donation to the winner’s chosen canine charity.
