An iconic building, known as the former Mischief’s pub, located in the heart of Cardiff Bay has undergone a remarkable transformation into a new seafood restaurant known as The Lord Bute. Led by Jo Bainton, a former civil servant turned property lawyer, the venue has been revamped to offer a unique dining experience to locals and visitors alike. The concept of the seafood restaurant was born out of a casual conversation among friends, all of whom shared a passion for food and music. The newly opened establishment will feature a seafood and grill menu, with live jazz and blues music performances scheduled every weekend.
The restoration of The Lord Bute involved extensive renovations to bring new life to the historic building. The ground floor retains its large bar area, now adorned with a stylish dark blue and copper decor for the main restaurant space. In addition, the previously closed-off first floor has been transformed into a cozy area with booths for cocktails and live music enjoyment. High-speed internet has been installed on the premises, catering to those in need of a workspace for meetings. Despite not being listed, the owners have preserved the building’s historical charm while adding contemporary touches.

The menu at The Lord Bute features a variety of seafood and grill options, including a seafood boil, seafood linguine, lobster thermidor, and fish and chips. The cocktail menu, priced from £11, pays homage to Cardiff Bay’s maritime history with drinks named after sailing vessels. The establishment is open six days a week, with plans to introduce a brunch menu once the restaurant is fully established. The team is focused on delivering a memorable dining experience to patrons, blending excellent cuisine with a vibrant music scene.
