‘I was 28 stone at 15 and told I could have a heart attack – one thing convinced me to change’

At the age of 15, Nicholas Garrett weighed 28 stone and was warned by doctors that he was at risk of having a heart attack. Growing up in south Wales, Nicholas struggled with his weight from a young age, consuming a diet mainly consisting of fast food. By the time he was a teenager, Nicholas found himself trapped in a cycle of stress and loneliness, using food as a coping mechanism. His calorie intake reached 4,000-6,000 calories per day, double the recommended amount for a man by the NHS.

Doctors’ concerns and the realization that his seatbelt no longer fit served as wake-up calls for Nicholas to make a change. Determined to transform his life, he embarked on a weight loss journey that saw him shed around 200lbs by the age of 19. Nicholas battled binge eating as a way to manage his emotions but found healthier alternatives such as spending time with friends, tracking his nutrition, hitting the gym, and utilising social media for support.

Utilising the MyFitnessPal app, Nicholas managed to lose over 80lbs in a year and a half by tracking his food intake and making healthier choices. His lifestyle changes and determination have not only helped him physically but also mentally and emotionally. Nicholas now serves as an inspiration to his social media followers, sharing his journey and encouraging others to pursue a healthier lifestyle.

Nicholas’s transformation has brought him increased energy, confidence, and self-respect, opening up a world of opportunities he never thought possible. Through his own experiences, he aims to motivate others to take control of their health and make positive changes. As he continues his journey into adulthood, Nicholas stands as a living testament to the power of determination and lifestyle changes in achieving significant weight loss and a healthier life.
