I tried Swansea’s new £5 immersive experience and it was a real mind bender

I recently experienced Swansea’s new £5 immersive encounter, and it was truly a mind-bending adventure. The experience, named FLIGHT, takes place at Taliesin Arts Centre and offers a unique journey that challenges reality as we know it.

The immersive experience involves 360-degree binaural sound, complete darkness, and various sensory effects, all within a replicated Airbus 320 economy cabin set up inside a shipping container. Lasting over 30 minutes, FLIGHT delves into the many worlds’ interpretation of quantum mechanics, guiding participants through two different realities and potential outcomes.

Upon entering the container, the resemblance to an aircraft is uncanny, complete with a boarding pass to enhance the illusion. The atmosphere is intensified with the use of headphones, creating a cacophony of sounds typical of a busy flight preparing for takeoff. Combined with seats that move and vibrate, the experience truly convinces you that you are soaring through the sky.

Despite the darkness enveloping the space, the sensory immersion prevents any inclination to doze off, keeping participants engaged throughout. Without revealing too much, FLIGHT’s concept draws on the idea of existence in multiple realities simultaneously, offering a thought-provoking and thrilling encounter.

If you’re up for an adventure and unafraid of the dark, FLIGHT is available at the Taliesin Arts Centre, Swansea University, until November 3, 2024, from 12 pm to 8 pm. Don’t miss the chance to experience this one-of-a-kind journey that blurs the lines between fiction and reality.
