A woman from Eryrys in Wales nearly lost her life after using ‘fake’ weight loss injections she bought for £20 on Facebook. Jodie Jones, a mother of three, had to be rushed to the hospital after one of her children called for an ambulance. The 37-year-old experienced delirium, unconsciousness, and vomited blood after taking the jabs. Doctors have been unable to identify the contents of the injections, but Jodie hopes that testing will provide more information.
Jodie had gained weight due to taking pregabalin, a medication used for nerve pain, which made it challenging for her to exercise because of degenerative discs in her spinal cord. Despite being a size 14 and wishing to become a size 10, she struggled to find effective weight loss solutions. After witnessing others losing weight through injections, Jodie contacted a beautician recommended by a friend on Facebook. She purchased four injections at £20 each to be taken over a month, picking them up from a beauty salon in Liverpool.
The initial results impressed Jodie as she lost half a stone after the first injection and felt constantly full, reducing her appetite significantly. However, the situation took a dangerous turn after the second injection, causing severe illness within hours. Jodie experienced continuous vomiting, inability to keep any food or water down, delirium, and vomiting blood. Her children had to care for her older two kids while she was in distress, leading to her daughter calling an ambulance in the early hours of the morning.
Treated at Wrexham Maelor Hospital and discharged the next day, Jodie has sworn off the jabs and believes she received a ‘fake’ product. She is advising people to think carefully before trying similar injections and recommends consulting the NHS for weight loss needs instead. Jodie emphasises the importance of proper medical oversight and warns against opting for unregulated treatments. Avoiding a repeat of her harrowing experience, Jodie advises individuals to seek professional guidance and avoid risking their health and wellbeing.
