**Amateur Baker Creates Giant Versions of Beloved British Biscuits – With some Containing up to 10,000 Calories**
A hobbyist baker from Brighton is gaining widespread attention after embarking on a quest to create super-sized renditions of Britain’s favourite biscuits, including custard creams, bourbon biscuits, and Jaffa Cakes on an unprecedented scale. Paige Philby, 29, has captured the imagination of social media users by unveiling her mammoth confections, some of which boast calorie counts exceeding four times the recommended daily intake for an adult male.
The trend began with a burst of creativity in February, after Paige decided to commemorate reaching 1,000 followers on social media by baking a gigantic Mini Jazzie. The overwhelming reaction online spurred her on to bigger and bolder projects, quickly developing a series of outsized versions of popular supermarket snacks. Among her repertoire are a 10,000-calorie custard cream, a 16-inch bourbon biscuit, and a chocolate digestive so substantial it dwarfs her own head.
Paige’s baking adventures are not just feats of scale but also acts of generosity. As a nursery worker during the day, she spends her spare time baking, frequently using up to a dozen eggs a week and an entire box of icing sugar each day. Nothing goes to waste, as she explains: “I take loads into work for my colleagues, give them to neighbours and family – everyone gets a share, and it’s brilliant seeing their reactions.”
Photos circulating online attest to the sheer scale of these treats. One standout image shows the home-made chocolate digestive nearly double the diameter of Paige’s head. Another highlights her nine-inch-long Cadbury’s chocolate finger, a humorous take on the more moderate shop-bought classic.
Enthusiasm for these creations seems boundless, both from Paige herself and the wider community. “I’ve always loved baking, and after that first big bake, everyone just wanted to suggest what I should try next,” she remarks. The list has grown to include requests for Tunnock’s Tea Cake, Party Rings, and the fan-favourite Oreo – which Paige eagerly hopes to tackle in the near future.
Despite the size and spectacle of these behemoth biscuits, Paige insists that they are faithful to the original flavours. Her perfectionist streak and artistic flair shine through: “The custard cream looked the biggest and the design was really fiddly, but getting it right is all part of the fun. I like to test myself and see how perfect I can make them – and being artsy helps!”
Addressing concerns of cost, she points out that the ingredients are less extravagant than some might assume: “Honestly, it’s just a matter of doubling up on the regular recipes. It’s not as expensive as people think when you break it down.”
The response on social media has been overwhelming, with millions tuning in to watch both her baking process and the reactions of those who try her mega treats. This has only fuelled her motivation and creativity, with Paige saying, “It’s been so positive and encouraging. It’s made me really enjoy thinking ‘what am I going to make this week?’”
Universal nostalgia is also a crucial part of the appeal. Paige notes, “Everyone can relate to their favourite biscuit from the supermarket. There are still quite a few left to try, and people keep coming up with all sorts of suggestions.”
As her following continues to grow, Paige remains committed to her unique hobby, bringing joy through both the whimsy and taste of her supersized bakes. One can only wonder what classic British biscuit might be due for its ‘monster’ makeover next.
