‘I choose not to buy a house so I can have nine holidays a year’

A Woman Chooses Freedom Over Homeownership

Natalia Czech, aged 34, has decided to rent all her life, rejecting the societal norm of buying a house. She, along with her partner Dominik Sawoska, values the flexibility that renting offers, allowing them to move whenever they desire due to career or personal reasons. Despite having the financial means to purchase a property, Natalia prefers to enjoy six to nine holidays annually rather than save for a house deposit.

Natalia stated, “My husband and I could save for a deposit in about 10 months but we don’t want to. Renting just gives me so much freedom and better opportunities.”

They opt to rent properties that exceed what they could buy, relishing the absence of long-term commitments, especially when new job prospects arise. Instead of tying themselves down with homeownership, Natalia and Dominik prioritize indulging in experiences and travel. Natalia shared, “I typically go on six to nine holidays or city breaks every year.” From attending concerts abroad to fine dining, Natalia’s lifestyle showcases her preference for renting over owning.

Originally from near Wroclaw in Poland, Natalia has rented since the age of 19, residing in eight different properties over the past 15 years. Settling in the UK seven years ago, she appreciates the flexibility that renting provides, especially when it comes to pursuing job opportunities in different locations.

Natalia expressed, “If a job opportunity comes up in London, I like knowing that I can move there hassle-free if I want to.”

Moreover, Natalia values the freedom from the worries that come with homeownership. She enjoys the lack of responsibility and stress that often accompany owning a property, leaving the maintenance issues to her landlords. She highlighted, “In all the places I’ve rented, I’ve found that any problems with the home like rude neighbors or maintenance issues are taken care of promptly by the landlord.”

Choosing experiences and freedom over traditional homeownership, Natalia exemplifies a new perspective on lifestyle choices. Her story challenges the conventional notion that owning a home is the ultimate goal by showcasing the fulfillment and joy that can be found in renting and prioritizing travel and leisure.
