How four uni students used a horse trailer to create viral business praised by Dragon’s Den star

Four university students have turned a horse trailer into a sensational business that has garnered praise from a Dragon’s Den star. Amidst lockdown boredom, Jamie Morrall, Ben Lyth, and twins Jacques and Beni Barker embarked on an unconventional venture by purchasing a horse trailer. The then-19-year-olds completely overhauled the trailer, converting it into a “pizza van” equipped with running water, lights, and portable pizza ovens. Naming their project Dirty Donkey, they hit the road in the summer of 2021, catering to various events in the Midlands and quickly gaining recognition despite their initial lack of business expertise.

As they transitioned to university life and took on additional jobs, the group maintained their commitment to growing their business. Their breakthrough came when they ventured onto TikTok, attracting millions of viewers and over 60,000 followers. Dragon’s Den star Theo Paphitis commended their dedication, highlighting their meticulous planning and passion for their craft. Having served at prominent events like the UK’s Wilderness festival, where they supplied pizzas for The Chemical Brothers, the group’s success soared. They expanded their fleet by adding a second trailer and a car, even as they completed their university studies.

While pursuing careers in their respective fields, the students remain focused on sustaining Dirty Donkey’s triumph. Through TikTok, they shared their motivation, expressing a desire to inspire future generations. Their journey from a spontaneous lockdown idea to a thriving business serves as a testament to their entrepreneurial spirit and determination. With a promising future ahead, the quartet continues to captivate audiences with their innovative approach and unwavering passion for their craft.
