A former police officer and an ex-hairdresser have joined forces to create one of the most successful restaurants in Wales within a year’s time. Teej Down and Tracy Jenkins have developed the Inn at the Sticks, a charming establishment that comprises a restaurant, hotel, deli, and even a hair salon managed by Tracy, located in Llansteffan, Carmarthenshire. The building, which has a rich history as a pub since 1809 and a hotel since 1881, was granted Grade II-listed status in 2002.
Ten years ago, Teej took on the challenge of transforming the property when no one else dared. After extensive renovations, the Inn at the Sticks reopened in 2023, receiving national recognition for its culinary excellence. The menu features small plates crafted from locally sourced ingredients, coupled with an extensive selection of wines, curated by head chefs Deb Neale and Mel Fairman.
The warm and welcoming ambiance, along with the delectable offerings, has made the Sticks a beloved spot in the Llansteffan community and beyond. Tracy, who hails from Cardiff and previously worked as a hairdresser, embraced the change of pace and scenery in Llansteffan, immersing herself in the business alongside Teej.
