Hospital Workers Investigated for Allowing Strangers to Watch Surgeries
An internal investigation is currently underway at Wales’ largest hospital following distressing claims that unauthorised individuals were permitted to observe surgical procedures on unsuspecting patients. The Cardiff and Vale University Health Board has launched a probe into what it has described as “deeply concerning” allegations regarding practices within the operating theatres at the University Hospital of Wales.
Earlier this year, reports emerged about a comprehensive service review being conducted by the health board at the hospital’s theatres, amidst accusations of a toxic work environment, racism, bullying, and drug use. The Government has been urged to intervene by Andrew RT Davies, Member of the Senedd for South Wales Central, to ensure an independent investigation of the “shocking” allegations rather than an internal inquiry.
Reports suggest that the presence of unauthorised observers during surgeries posed potential infection risks during the Covid-19 pandemic, as these individuals allegedly lacked proper personal protective equipment.
