Hospice Nurse Shares Death That Left Her Amazed – ‘He Chose When to Die’

Julie McFadden, a hospice nurse also known as Nurse Julie, has gained popularity on social media for candidly sharing insights about her job and the remarkable experiences she encounters with her patients. She aims to educate those who may not be familiar with the end-of-life process. Despite her extensive experience with death, Julie admits that there are still aspects that remain a mystery even to her.

In a recent interview with NHS surgeon and social media personality Dr Karan Rajan on his podcast, ‘Dr Karan Explores,’ Julie disclosed some cases that have left her completely perplexed and for which she has no explanation. She revealed instances where patients seemed to have the ability to predict their own death. They would specify dates or events, such as saying, ‘I’m going to die after this date’ or ‘I’ll wait for my daughter’s wedding,’ and then pass away as foretold, sometimes even when not actively in a dying state.

When asked about these occurrences, Nurse Julie confessed her bewilderment, stating that these patients had not taken any action to hasten their passing, leaving her astonished and searching for answers. Another phenomenon she discussed was patients reporting sightings of deceased loved ones or pets. However, Julie clarified that these visions do not usually occur as portrayed in movies, with a last-minute glimpse before impending death. Instead, these encounters typically happen around three weeks prior to the patient’s passing.

Despite the patients’ seemingly serene state during these sightings, being alert and conversational, Nurse Julie acknowledged the significance of these experiences. She noted that the individuals typically saw someone they loved and were eager to reunite with in death. Although she has witnessed this scenario numerous times throughout her career, Julie couldn’t recall a specific instance due to its frequency.

Having transitioned from working in the ICU to hospice care, Julie confessed that her perspective on death changed significantly after witnessing a patient’s peaceful passing in a hospice setting. This experience led her to embark on her social media journey and inspired her upcoming book, ‘Nothing to Fear,’ focusing on the topic of death and dying.

Julie’s openness and willingness to share her experiences shed light on the profound and often enigmatic nature of end-of-life care, providing valuable insights for both healthcare professionals and the general public.
