Horrific injuries as four people attacked by dogs in under 48 hours

Four people have suffered horrific injuries after being attacked by dogs in less than 48 hours, with shocking images revealing the extent of the wounds inflicted. The first victim, a woman in her 60s, was bitten by a Rottweiler Husky cross in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, leading to a frantic 999 call where it was reported that her leg was left “hanging off”. Emergency services rushed her to a hospital with serious leg injuries that were deemed not life-threatening.

Shortly after this incident, another attack occurred involving a Belgian Malinois biting a 20-year-old woman in a nearby location. The dog showed aggression towards a family member, and when the victim tried to intervene, she suffered lacerations to her arms, requiring medical attention. The following day, a 33-year-old woman in Maltby, South Yorkshire, was bitten by an XL Bully in her own home while feeding another dog. The attack resulted in puncture wounds to her hands, arms, torso, and a broken wrist.

In a separate incident, a 13-year-old boy was bitten by a Cane Corso, causing minor injuries. Chief Inspector Emma Cheney expressed concern over the rising number of dog attacks, emphasizing the need for preventive measures to avoid such incidents. She urged owners to be cautious, especially when children are involved, and recommended keeping dogs secure when visitors are present and leashing them in public spaces.

The police force stressed the importance of not underestimating the risk of dog attacks and advised owners to take necessary precautions regardless of their dog’s breed, age, or history. These measures are crucial in safeguarding not only oneself but also others from potential harm caused by aggressive canine behaviour. The frequency of such incidents highlights the ongoing challenge faced by authorities in responding to and preventing dog-related injuries, underscoring the need for vigilance and responsible pet ownership in the community.
