Heartbroken Family Pays Tribute to Cardiff Nightlife Legend Jason “Jay” Page after Tragic Passing
The family of Jason Page, a beloved figure in Cardiff’s nightlife scene, is mourning his sudden and untimely death at the age of 39. Known affectionately as Jay, he was a prominent member of the hospitality industry in the Welsh capital. His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of his family and the community that admired his dedication to the success of bars, restaurants, and events in Cardiff.
Jason’s funeral arrangements have been confirmed, and his family has expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love, support, and tributes received during this difficult time. They have requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to remember Jay, with contributions going towards a memorial bench and his chosen charities.
Growing up in Barry, Jason, along with his parents Lesley and Russ and brother Chris, settled in the coastal town after living abroad due to Russ’ career in the RAF. Jason’s passion for music was nurtured from a young age when he began playing in the local RAF brass band at just seven years old. An accomplished trombonist, he later led the band at various events, including Eisteddfods and international games.
After attending schools in Barry, Jason found his calling in Cardiff’s vibrant hospitality industry. He embarked on a successful career that saw him involved in the opening and management of several well-known venues in the city. From Revolution to Ladybird & Kapu Club, and later at 10 Mill Lane, Sodabar, and The Botanist, Jason’s influence and hard work were evident in the thriving nightlife of Cardiff.
During the challenges posed by the pandemic, Jason showed resilience and creativity by adapting to new circumstances. He was known for his innovative ideas, such as setting up roof terrace greenhouses to comply with safety regulations, which garnered him media attention and accolades.
In addition to his professional achievements, Jason was a familiar face at charity events and local gatherings, often seen in elaborate costumes and participating in community activities. His impact on Cardiff’s hospitality scene was profound, as evidenced by the Go Fund Me campaign set up by friends to honour his memory with a memorial bench.
Friends, colleagues, and community members are invited to attend Jason’s funeral service at All Saint’s Church in Barry on March 13, followed by a private service at Barry Crematorium. Details for a wake to celebrate Jason’s life will be announced in due course.
Jason’s legacy as a nightlife legend in Cardiff will continue to inspire and resonate with those who knew him. His passion, dedication, and larger-than-life personality have left an indelible mark on the city’s hospitality industry and the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
The passing of Jason “Jay” Page serves as a poignant reminder of the impact one person can have on a community, and his memory will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to have known him. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched during this difficult time.
