A burglary case in Wales has left a holidaying couple devastated after their BMW car and belongings worth £32,000 were stolen while they were away in Thailand. Mark Goodier, a 37-year-old man from Llanddaniel, Gaerwen, Anglesey, was later arrested and sentenced to two years and five months in jail for his involvement in the crime. The victim, who resides in Llanberis, managed to track his stolen vehicle to the Maesgeirchen estate in Bangor using a phone application, leading to the arrest of the thief.
During the trial, the court heard that the couple’s home was ransacked, with expensive items like Chanel handbags, jewellery, and watches, each valued at over £1,000, being stolen. The victim’s sister discovered the burglary while the couple was still in Thailand, prompting the tracking of the stolen car and subsequent police involvement. The incident took place on December 19, and the stolen BMW was later seen being towed to different locations.
Police investigation revealed that a blue Ford Cougar, which was used in the burglary, had its licence plates cloned and had been stolen from Burnley. When searched, Goodier’s home yielded some of the stolen items. The victim, in a statement, expressed the impact of the burglary on his mental well-being and business, considering leaving the area due to the trauma. Goodier, through his defence, cited personal struggles, including a leg injury from his military service, as contributing factors to his criminal actions.
Despite the distress caused to the victims, the court sentenced Goodier to a total of two years and five months for various offences related to the burglary. The judge emphasized the severity of the crime and its disruptive effects on the victims, noting that it had marred their holiday experience and left them in a state of distress.
