A grieving mother is devastated after a well-known neighbourhood cat was reportedly run over by a bus. Rachel Bell, a resident of Chilwell near Nottingham, expresses her anger towards a local bus company she believes to be responsible for the tragic incident involving her beloved cat, Mufasa. The cat, a community favourite known for his friendliness and love for attention, was found lying in the street with severe injuries.
Rachel, recalling the heartbreaking discovery, mentioned how Mufasa was a popular figure in the area and affectionately referred to as the ‘bus stop cat’ due to his habit of greeting everyone and enjoying being petted. The news of Mufasa’s death reached Rachel through a neighbour and a Facebook post, leading to an emotional realisation for her family. After confirming the cat’s identity with a veterinary practice, the family proceeded to arrange for his cremation, highlighting the emotional toll of losing a beloved pet.
Following the incident, Rachel and her family are seeking justice by filing a complaint with Nottingham City Transport (NCT) and are calling on a witness to the accident to come forward. Unlike incidents involving dogs, there is no legal obligation for drivers to report collisions with cats, but NCT bus drivers are instructed to take appropriate action if such incidents occur. The NCT has acknowledged the family’s complaint and is investigating the matter through CCTV footage.
