GP shares common condition symptoms you ‘should never accept as normal’

A GP has recently highlighted the importance of not dismissing certain symptoms as normal and encouraged seeking medical advice if experiencing them. Dr. Raj Arora, known as @drrajarora, specialises in women’s health and skin health. Through a TikTok video, Dr. Arora addressed the topic of endometriosis, a condition where tissue similar to the womb lining grows outside the womb, affecting areas like ovaries and fallopian tubes.

One key symptom she mentioned was pain while using the toilet, indicating potential scarring and inflammation from endometriosis affecting nearby organs. Pain during intercourse was also identified as a possible indicator of the condition due to inflammation and scarring caused by endometrial tissue outside the womb. Additionally, difficulties conceiving could be linked to endometriosis affecting reproductive organs, potentially leading to fertility issues.

Dr. Arora emphasised the importance of not normalising these symptoms and urged individuals to consult their GP for proper evaluation and assistance. Common signs of endometriosis include lower abdominal or back pain, severe period pain, discomfort during sex, and fertility problems. Symptoms can vary among individuals, impacting daily activities and overall quality of life.

Endometriosis can have diverse effects on women, from heavy periods to emotional struggles like depression. Seeking timely medical advice and treatment is crucial for managing the condition effectively. Recognising symptoms early, advocating for personal health needs, and seeking medical guidance play vital roles in addressing endometriosis and other health concerns.
