Google, Twitter, Amazon, Gov.uk Paypal, Etsy and eBay all down as users try to log in only to find an error message

Gov.uk, Paypal, Amazon, Etsy, eBay and Vimeo users are all running into ‘Service Unavailable’ messages and so are The Guardian and FT.

Issues with users started around 10.40am this morning seemingly to have been sparked by an issue with a (CDN) content delivery network, (A content delivery network, or content distribution network, is a geographically distributed network of proxy servers and their data centers. The goal is to provide high availability and performance by distributing the service spatially relative to end users.)

One of the world’s largest CDNs, has reported a major outage across its global network, which is what would have caused the issues.

CDN’s offer services to speeding up loading times for websites, protect them from cyberattacks and helping them deal with bursts of traffic in order to stay online and stable.

The US-firm has confirmed it is “currently investigating potential impact to performance with our CDN services”.

GOV.UK, Shopify, PayPal, Spotify, Twitch, Twitter, HMRC, Pinterest, Google, Virgin Media and BT have all seen users report problems at 11am. Which appear to have been rectified and coming back online as we speak. We wait for more information on whats happened
