Full list of Welsh buildings set to benefit from huge cash injection

The Welsh Government has recently announced a substantial investment of £4.8 million to enhance community buildings across Wales. A total of 57 projects are set to receive funding, with some buildings receiving up to £300,000 each. The aim of this funding is to revitalise and protect community spaces, encouraging community engagement and wellbeing.

Among the projects receiving funding is the refurbishment of the former synagogue in Merthyr Tydfil by The Foundation for Jewish Heritage. The £300,000 grant will be used to transform six flats into part of a Heritage Centre and community facility. Additionally, the former Ysgol Abersoch school in Gwynedd will be repurposed into a community space through a government grant of £298,034 for the Menter Rabar project.

The Welsh Government’s Communities Facilities Programme aims to empower community groups in Wales to purchase and improve buildings, fostering a sense of unity and togetherness. Over the past decade, the programme has already invested nearly £68 million, contributing to the creation or preservation of over 500 community spaces. For example, Gwynedd’s Menter y Plu Cyf will receive £300,000 to convert a 1950s extension into a community and dining space. Meanwhile, Fairwater RFC 2018 Ltd in Cardiff will use their £300,000 grant to redevelop their current building to accommodate larger community groups.

Other recipients include Mid and North Powys MIND in Llandrindod Wells, which will receive £299,625 towards refurbishing a former dance studio. The Ammanford Food Bank in Carmarthenshire will use their £300,000 grant to replace storage containers with a permanent building, enabling private consultations for individuals in need.

Moreover, the Llanfoist Village Hall in Monmouthshire will benefit from £93,100 for refurbishing their car park, providing a much-needed upgrade to the facility. These strategic investments aim to address specific needs within each community, enhancing the overall quality of life and supporting local initiatives.
