Full list of 59 car models facing £2,000 rise in car tax from April

Drivers of 59 car models are set to face a significant £2,000 increase in vehicle excise duty starting from April. The impact will be most felt by those purchasing new luxury and performance models emitting over 255g/km of CO2. The rate for these vehicles will skyrocket by £2,745 to a staggering £5,490 per year. While the standard road tax rate will only rise in line with inflation, any car purchased after the specified date emitting more than 75g per kilometre of CO2 will incur a considerably higher road tax bill.

The first-year road tax rates are expected to double across all higher CO2 bands, a move that is projected to generate £400 million for treasury funds next year and £1.7 billion by the end of the decade, according to a report from Birmingham Live. The government has acknowledged the disproportionate impact of the current VED Expensive Car Supplement threshold for buyers of zero-emission cars. Plans are being considered to raise the threshold specifically for zero-emission vehicles at a future fiscal event to encourage the purchase of electric cars.
