Former England cricketer Freddie Flintoff’s life took a drastic turn when he was involved in a serious car accident while filming an episode of Top Gear. The 46-year-old sportsman was recently back on TV screens for the second series of BBC One’s cricket documentary, Field of Dreams, marking his first appearance since the near-fatal crash in December 2022.
The accident occurred at the Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey, where the open-topped, three-wheel Morgan Super 3 car Flintoff was driving flipped, resulting in him sustaining broken ribs and facial injuries. Following the crash, Freddie was airlifted to a hospital for immediate medical attention. His wife, Rachael Wilson, rushed to be by his side and was given a chilling three-word warning to brace herself for what she was about to see.
According to a source, the severity of the injuries was due to the car not having a roof, leading to a freak accident where the vehicle flipped over. Both Freddie and a crew member were wearing helmets during the incident. Flintoff’s son, Corey, shared the family’s shock and concern, emphasizing that his father was fortunate to have survived the harrowing crash.
Freddie and Rachael, who have been together since 2002, have four children and reside in a £2.5 million property in Altrincham, Manchester. Reflecting on the traumatic experience, Freddie expressed that he may never fully recover from the crash, stating, “I am what I am now, I’m different to what I was, that’s something I’ll have to deal with for the rest of my life. Better, no, different.”
After a year of intense recovery, Freddie is back doing what he loves on television. The couple’s journey through this challenging period highlights their strength and unwavering support for each other. As Freddie continues to heal, his resilience and determination shine through as he returns to the spotlight, showcasing his passion for cricket.
