Four individuals have been arrested near the Welsh border in a significant drug bust where approximately £80 million worth of cocaine, disguised as shea butter, was seized. This operation, led by the National Crime Agency (NCA), resulted in the confiscation of a staggering 847.5 kilograms of the Class A substance. The arrests occurred on Wednesday, February 5, at a location in Merrington, Shrewsbury, Shropshire. The suspects, ranging in age from their thirties to sixties, were taken into custody but have since been released on bail pending further investigations.
The elaborate investigation was initiated after Border Force officers conducted a search of a shipping container at Tilbury Docks in Essex on December 23 of the previous year. Initially concealed as shea butter, the container was found to contain bricks of cocaine bearing markings resembling Polo Ralph Lauren and Cessna logos, as well as the Star of David emblem. The NCA probe was supported by West Mercia Police during the arrests and subsequent search operations. A woman in her forties was also arrested on suspicion of money laundering but has been released whilst investigations are ongoing.
