Former Councillor Stabs Wife, Claims ‘This Is What I Do for Love’
Former Bridgend Town councillor Darren Brown, 35, has been accused of stabbing his wife three times with a knife, telling her, “This is what I do for love.” The incident, which occurred on July 10 last year at their family home in Wildmill, Bridgend, has left his wife, Corinne Brown, with serious injuries. Brown denies attempting to murder his wife but admits to causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
The couple, who have two children, had separated, with Darren Brown sleeping on the sofa. A court trial in Cardiff heard that an argument escalated, leading to the violent attack. In footage from a camera in Mrs. Brown’s bedroom, Darren Brown is heard questioning why his wife had pushed him to that point. Despite her pleas to stop, he continued the assault, causing three puncture wounds.
Mrs. Brown managed to crawl to the bathroom and lock herself inside, but Brown broke in, attempting to inflict further harm. He was later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. During the trial, witnesses testified to Brown’s actions and his statements during the attack, with Mrs. Brown recounting his chilling words of love and violence.
Prosecutors argued that Brown’s intent was to kill his wife, citing various pieces of evidence to support this claim. While the defence suggested that Brown did not intend to kill but only to hurt his wife, the seriousness of the incident cannot be understated. The trial is ongoing, with further testimony expected to shed light on the events leading up to the attack and Brown’s state of mind during the assault.
This disturbing case highlights the tragic consequences of domestic violence and the devastating impact it can have on families. As the trial continues, the court will have to determine the true motives behind Darren Brown’s actions and deliver justice for his wife and children who have suffered as a result of this appalling crime.
