First picture of new Cardiff ‘destination’ skatepark revealed

Cardiff is set to have a new “destination” skatepark, and the first picture of the exciting project has been unveiled. The skatepark, located next to the Eastern Leisure Centre in Llanrumney, will cover an impressive 1,000m2 and work is scheduled to commence before Christmas. Designed in collaboration with the local skateboard community, the skatepark will feature a range of elements such as ramps, hips, curbs, ledges, rails, and a quarter pipe to cater to skaters of all ages and skill levels.

The project, developed by award-winning consultants VDZ+A and Newline Skateparks, aims to provide a high-quality, low-maintenance, and low-noise concrete skatepark to replace the existing timber-framed one. Cardiff Council has shared that alongside the construction of the skatepark, there are plans for broader enhancements to the area, including new wildflower planting. A spokesperson from the council expressed excitement about the upcoming facility, highlighting that it is part of the council’s strategy to support skateboarding as an Olympic sport and promote physical activity for all age groups.
