Fire authority has to ‘cut its coat according to its cloth’ as 5.75% budget increase approved

South Wales Fire Authority has approved a significant 5.75% increase in the budget contributions from the 10 council areas for the upcoming year, following a meeting of the four commissioners of the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS) Authority. This decision will see local councils contributing a total of £101.34m towards SWFRS’s budget, representing an increase of £5.5m. The approved budget for 2025-26 includes adjustments that account for potential changes in national insurance contribution funding from the Welsh Government. Without these adjustments, the underlying like-for-like increase in the revenue budget would be 4.08%.
